Saturday’s GREAT PA CLEAN UP was a big success!

Approximately 70-80 volunteers of all ages participated.  We separated into 5 teams to clean different parts of Ambridge and worked from 9am to noon, collecting 68 bags of litter.  Afterwards, we enjoyed time together snacking on hot dogs &  pizza.

Many people and organizations helped to make the event a success:

  • St. Mary’s church for use of their hall and parking lot

  • Mr. Robert Moltoni & the New Economy Business Park for a cash donation that helped with the food and gift certificates raffled off

  • Ambridge Regional Development for sponsoring part of the event

  • Vocelli’s Pizza

  • Creekside Springs

  • Ambridge ROTC

  • AAHS Interact students

  • Ambridge Borough for use of the streetsweeper and Don who drove it!

  •  All the many merchants who donated gift certificates

Of course, this event could not have succeeded without the tireless efforts of Roberta Sciulli who organized the troops.  Special thanks also to members of the Committee who donated their time and efforts to make it all possible.

$5000.00 grant awarded to Committee to Clean and Beautify Ambridge by Pittsburgh 250 Community Connections!

The grant will be used to construct a water element in P.J. Caul Park.  The fountain will be constructed by a local Ambridge artisan.  Read application.

Community Connections is a grassroots initiative of Pittsburgh 250 supporting projects that encourage civic engagement throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, commemorate the region’s 250th anniversary, and provide lasting value to communities and the region as a whole.  More than 500 applications for funding were submitted by individuals, community groups, and organizations to celebrate the “Pride and Progress” of Southwestern Pennsylvania—the theme of Community Connections.  A region-wide community decision making process selected 100 projects to share $1 million in funding for events and activities occurring throughout the anniversary year of 2008.

If you would like to know more about our group and our plans for 2008, please feel free to call Ray at (724) 266-1930 or Bob at (724) 266-1158.

Click here to Shop Merchant Street Online

Shop Ambridge merchants listed on ShopMainStreet.org, a national e-Commerce portal that connects savvy shoppers with unique “mom & pop” businesses in historic “Main Street” settings. Launched for the 2006 holiday season, it is an initiative of the National Trust Main Street Center. It allows you to not only find one-of-a-kind gifts, but also helps independent businesses and the historic or traditional shopping districts in which they are located to compete with large national retailers. This site is not just about shopping - it's also about supporting a part of our heritage that is important to all of us.

Interested in getting your business listed?  You must:

  1. Be located in a Main Street, neighborhood traditional commercial district – businesses located in malls, strip malls, new commercial developments, and other non-traditional commercial areas will not be accepted.
  2. Be independently owned or a locally-owned chain or franchise - National chains and franchises are not eligible for the site.
  3. Have some e-commerce capability – this is defined as either a full online store or an online catalog with pricing and phone ordering capability.
  4. Have the ability to ship or otherwise deliver products to anywhere in the US – service businesses or other businesses that require the customer to physically visit the store to take advantage of their goods are not eligible for the site.
